Harder than I thought

I am working on a project for my surface design class and barely 5 minutes into it I am having trouble containing my tears. The requirement of my piece is that it must portray a memory or memories, rather true or untrue, made up or real memories, didn't matter. I instantly wanted to do something involving my grandparents and then we had a reading about memories that really made me want to involve my grandparents. My mom has a closet filled with their clothing so I knew I wouldn't have trouble finding fabric to represent them. While cutting up their clothing it hit me, tears streamed out uncontrollably. I found that many mini breaks did help. And the results were so worth all the tears. It turned out awesome!!!

I'll take better photos later when I do Review Committee. I just don't have a camera yet so I have to use my photobooth...

Cheap Decorating=Awesome Idea

When Charlie Kratzer started on the basement art project in his south Lexington home, he was surrounded by walls painted a classic cream. Ten dollars of Magic Marker and Sharpie later, the place was black and cream and drawn all over.
There are fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes, Winston Churchill lounging with George Bernard Shaw — and the TV squirrel Rocky and his less adroit moose pal Bullwinkle.
Says Kratzer of his cartoon of a cartoon: "You appreciate the cleverness more as an adult."

Winter Project

It turns out that is very boring in a house by oneself. It has only been a couple days and I have already done most of the chores, watched all my shows, and gone to the library. The one thing left to do is organize my stuff so that I am ready for this next semester but I don't want to waste money on more shelving so I have decided to finally make a cardboard shelf since we have so many boxes from moving in and mail that everyone gets. I did some research but I don't think I am going to get this fancy. I am going to go for something more fun and boxlike. So here is the research and I'll try to remember to post my finished unit so it can be compared....

Finish Line

This will be the last week for the Fall 2010 semester, finally! I mean the semester was great and I learned a tons but it was also filled with stress and anxiety so I'm glad that it's ending. All I have left to do is study and take two finals (math and american history), finish my inflatable hippo, my surface design project, and all my stuff for papermaking. No big deal, right? So this week is going to be a bit busy but next week will be relaxing in comparison even though I still have to work, take people to the airport, and go to court. I still need to christmas shop for the family, hopefully I find some time for that.

So I thought maybe I would finally post some pics. These are from my surprise Thanksgiving visit to Indianna with my roomie Emma. We left tuesday night to my family's house, stayed the night and went to my ortho appt and then had lunch with my parents before setting off to Indianna.

We arrived in Indianna around 9ish at night to surprise Emma's parents first. Her dad opened the door and yelled at Emma's mom that she'll never guess who's here. Em's mom was is total shock. All she kept saying over and over that night was "I can't believe your here" and she kept staring at Em. It was pretty funny. The next day we had breakfast with Ms. Sue, took a tour of Sharpsville, Kokomo, etc, and then headed out to where Emma really wanted to be, Chris's house. We parked down the road at a cemetary and then walked to his house so that he wouldn't hear the car. We knocked on the door and Shelly, his mom, answered the door. When Chris came to the door he was probably in more shick than Em's mom was. All he could get out was "How did you get here?". It would have been funny except for the fact that I was still outside in the freezing cold wind while Em hugged him in the doorway. I had to slightly push the couple forward so I could get into the warm house :) It took Chris a while to get used to seeing me in person. He had trouble speaking to me directly for the first few hours. At one point he was trying to tell me something but was doing it through telling Emma even though I was right there and his mom asked him if he was okay, all he could tell her was that I wasn't real cause he has only seen me on the screen. hahahahahaha! We had Thanksgiving Dinner with Chris's family, I worked on my Hippo a bit that day, and we played games that night. The next day we didn't get up and going till 9 even though it was Black Friday, and you know I didn't mind. That was probably one of the first black fridays in years that I have gotten to sleep past 4am. So we went shopping, ate some chinese, had some ice cream, on Abraham's request, and then went back to Chris's to relax, help Emma with one of her photo projects, and play games again. That night we went out to Steak and Shake to hang out with Emma's friend Anna.  Saturday Chris had to work so we got to sleep in, relax, pack our stuff, and wait for him to get home. Once he got back we watched some tv and then had to say our goodbyes. That night we went out to dinner with Emma's parents and stayed the night at their house. Sunday we traveled back to Memphis lazily. It was fun to see Emma's home and her family and friends. The trip was a blast and involved alot of running around and doing nothing(which I love). I hardly ever get to just sit, do nothing, and not stress over what I should be doing for school.

Artist: Sung Yeonju from Seoul, South Korea

Sung Yeonju was born in Korea in 1986 and graduated from the Hong Ik University in 2010. This work is from the series, Wearable Foods, in which she makes garments out of food and photographs them. As a fine artist, she fell in love with photography as a main tool and a medium to create her visions. ‘Wearable Foods’ is the first long term project she started two years ago and it still continues to this day. This series of her work forces viewers to defy the actual meaning, the functionalities, and the aspects of what clothing signifies in our lives. The essence of clothing and food has been reinterpreted. Each element does not fulfill its own role and yet, each suggests an unconventional and even contradicting role – un-wearable clothing that is made out of the materials that do not last. This work will be shown for the first time in the U.S. this January at a gallery in Los Angeles. Yeonju is represented by Art-Merge.
